While that's probably what physics dictates should happen, Dragon Ball has treated beams and other energy attacks like this. For example, Gohan was able to push back Cell's tamtrum Kamehameha in its entirety with a smaller but stronger version. My head canon is that all ki attacks have a thin outer shell that makes them behave like solids.

In general, beams explode on impact with solid matter, but only push towards each other. If Goku's kamehameha has a pointy tip, it will deflect the Final Flash around it in a cone, which would bore a large hole in the attack.

Goku could be Using Instant Transmission and not Afterimage.

There are 2 things to consider. First, Vegeta and Goku talked about Gohan's state and used it as base for their training. Then, this Vegeta is different, since he accepted Goku as a rival an not as an enemy he needed to destroy, his state of mind changed for the better.

Actually, "Bra's left ab" is quite right. The only reason DBM was created, was to show fights that didn't happen. Of course, 15 years later, i also want to add long background stories, continuity, and characters motivation, and even, god forbids as this is basically a tournament, a plot!
But I won't forget DBM's main purpose, and this purpose (other than keeping a DB/DBZ vibe for us the nostalgics) is to show fights that we fanboys wanted to see.

Around 1990, there was DB and DBZ on french TV. The diffusion was random and complicated (on vacations, suddenly you had much more episodes). It was very hard to follow properly any anime. I liked DB but it was not my main focus. Sometimes I was like "ah, it's called DBZ now". Then "ah, Sangoku is adult now". At some point, goku and gohan where at home eating in SSJ form as I was like "hu, they have different hair now? So weird." - didn't even know it was a transformation. With fillers everywhere, i remembered thinking at a point "hu, dbz now is just the characters searching for this Cell who drains people and then hides on a balcony".
Then the manga was published in france. Almost the first manga publication ever (there was Akira before but they colored it and printed like a french comic book). It was a major revolution for me. I was reading hundreds of french comics books before that, and i shifted to manga immediately, with Dragon Ball, Ranma ½, City Hunter, then my all-time favorite, Gunnm.
The anime, any TV series anime, is slow and terribly boring most of the time for me.

Can all of the Piccolo in the room hurry up and fuse with Gast to create HyperGast to end this tomfoolery or something?
I'd take Gogeta vs Vegito too, but Gogeta vs Vegito only deals with Vegito, and the others would still need to find a way to deal with Buu. Gohan fusing with Gohan to create the true ultimate warrior, maybe?

Also, if Vegito wants to fight Buu so bad, then isn't he kind of passing up the opportunity to do so like, right now?
