At the end of the day, Son Goku still is the main character. It all ends with him, despite there being many great characters around him.
And that's a good thing. Having a great main protagnist, but also having other characters who can play the role as main protagonist for periods of time. DBM has this even better then either DBS or even DBZ. And certainly VERY MUCH... GT. lol.
DC has this with Superman... (it's so good in DC... that's it is arguable even Superman even is the main hero in DC anymore. It's like 1A-1B with him at Batman).

He looks like he's somehow tapping back into the calm state they both did at the start of the battle. While in the middle of being overpowered by a beam.

It’s not plot-armor or some random ass-pull. The Kaioken makes a lot of sense. It probably makes more sense than literally any other option in this instance- especially if this new form is intended to remove the strain added by transformations. He feels closer to his base form now than he ever has as a super Saiyan. The Kaioken is completely justifiable.
And for those who are saddened that this might end in a similar fashion to their first fight? Sorry, but not that much. You are literally reading a fanmade manga about multiple what-if scenarios for a franchise that has gone an entirely different direction. Stop pretending this entire comic isn’t literally fan service. You want fan-service, just the same as everyone else. Only difference is… you want fan-service related to less explored concepts in DB, while most want fan service more akin to classic DBZ combat. You’re not better- you’re just quirky and kinda opinionated about your takes. Lmao
This comic is just an amalgamation of both commonly explored fan-service and lesser explored fan-service. I’m not saying there’s not love and care put into it, because there are definitely some unique concepts and interesting tropes thrown in- but you’re basically just mad it wasn’t your turn. XD

It would be the exact opposite of justified. The whole reason they went for the first transformation is to not be slaves to the default problems of the super saiyan form: it taxes the body too much and damages it in the long run. The Kaioken would do PRECISELY the same, as it is literally a technique that damages the body for extra power output.
From a storywise perspective, if the kaioken is utilised, it would mean the entire setup for this battle is completely negated.
Im going to guess now that there's a beam struggle Goku CAN use the instant transmission technique to pinpoint where vegeta is located, and he's focusing on that.

I am not sure Kaioken is viable though I do agree with the point your making. Obviously this form would be better equipped to handle Kaioken than any SSJ form physically, but it does take concentration for Goku and Vegeta to use this transformation. That is concentration being spent already, not to mention they are probably spending effort staying conscious in the shape Goku and Vegeta are in. Does Goku have the mental strength (though it's hard to doubt a guy like Goku here on this one) to focus on this new transformation, focus on staying conscious as he gets the shit kicked out of him by Vegeta, and then push his body beyond his normal limits (like Kaioken)?
Though again, your point is valid because it's just logical to go to the next level if the current level ain't enough and you can go higher, even if it does strain your body. That's why Goku did high-levels of Kaioken against Vegeta and especially Frieza. It's why Goku uses SSJ3 at all, because SSJ3 is undeniably superior to SSJ2 as a transformation because it offers you a level of power SSJ2 can't. But there is a risk that if Goku used Kaioken that Goku could hurt himself more if he messes up and Vegeta gains the upper hand and wins. I wouldn't be too thrilled about Goku beating Vegeta with Kaioken though, I rather see him win some other way or even just Vegeta winning.

Maybe different characters got plot armor in different universes. I mean look at U16 with Bra and U20 with Broly.
Ass pull, 100%. At least it was a great fight and it kept going after the first "end of the fight" leaving some room for speculation on the outcome. Great job DBM! Really enjoyed the fight.

Really? I apologize then.
By the way, I'd like to really compliment the art, which is nothing short of amazing, but I also really like the development of both Goku and Vegeta. Is particularly good to see the main character acting as the hardened warrior is supposed to be, opposite of the current official productions that sadly reverted him to a beginner simpleton.
I can't speak for everyone else but I'm a Dragon Ball Z fan, in DBZ the powerups were well grounded in its own logic not ass pulls, they came from a good deal of training and plotwise were well hinted. Unlike DBS where Goku is pretty much Saint Seiya now, you knock him down and BAM he gets up stronger (no heal, no zenkais) than his adversary with a new powerup that came out of nowhere. DBM so far hasn't made any BS powerups but after how Dragon Ball's current cannon handled Goku, I'd say its fair for people to be on the defensive about him and his potential ass pulls.
A beam struggle that ends in a draw would be even worse. With the insane amounts of energy they are throwing around those beams would have to cancel each other perfectly and even the slightest imbalance would vaporise one when he passes out.
A draw would have been fine a couple pages ago. Now I just want to fight to end, don't care who wins.

Right now they keep all energy inside without leaking it out, even their aura vanished. Kaioken is the opposite of it, you get a boost for pushing out all you have.
In the novel, U18 Vegeta actually did something similar against U13 Kakarotto when they had a beam struggle, Kakarotto looked like he was about to beat Vegeta and then, Kakarotto's kamehameha, just went around Vegeta like nothing happened as though he managed to shield himself with a fancy energy blast.
This page compelled me in doing so because its comimg to the conclusion of this great fight.
I wanna say, reading DBZM for the last couple of years, for me, this story is the superior one next to anything official. The love that goes into the art and story have kept me coming back to finish it page after page. It's much better than the DBS anime or even manga in most cases, a million times better than Heroes or Xenoverse in terms of storytelling, or literally anything else Dragon Ball related that has come out in the last couple of years.
Sure, it's annoying when the story comes to a grinding halt because of specials or some things just don't make sense but it's always obvious that it's a story made by people that truly love Dragon Ball. I've seen people in these comments show their love or disgust over the years, all types of opinions but I love seeing the passionate words and I'm inspired to share mine today.
As for what comes next, some people are saying that Goku may gather his strength for one final push to victory but seeing such great art depict Goku in this scenario, my heart hopes and is telling me that that after all these years of knowing this character, one that is synonymous with who I am and has greatly influenced me all my life, not unlike many of you, that he knows that after years of being ahead and on top, he's finally been bested by his best buddy/greatest rival at the peak of their powers and as much as hes happy for him, he's just happy to have gotten a great fight out of it, no hard feelings. That's how I interpret the last panel but thank you for allowing me to visualize something that has always been in my heart and mind, I'm ready to see the conclusion!!!

Actually, and this is a part about Kaioken that seems to have just been forgotten in the fanbase for a min now, the Kaioken only damages the body if used beyond what the user can handle. Back in Saiyan Saga (in the manga at least) it was even explained that Kakarot can only use up to Kaioken x3 without drawbacks, but x4 and up would cause recoil damage. Kaioken in essence is about your ki control, and the upper limits of your ki threshold.

i assume the ki just streams out of his hands like a sink streaming water, if you teleported a sink whilst it was streaming water, it doesn't just stream again because it was never turned off, just merely moved.
it would actually just be something like this:

3.teleport
there is no 4th step (besides maybe getting hit by your own blast if you teleport in the way.)

Honestly, Gohan's Ultimate Form is a little hard to figure why this or that doesn't work since it's not thoroughly explained. Like, old Kai told Gohan to do what he does when going Super Saiyan and it activated the form. This made me think he can't stack it cause it sort of replaced it, but then Super goes and has it be like in the video games where the two forms are seperate things that Gohan choose which one to turn into. It's just really confusing to reason why this or that doesn't work. Though I will say that Super Saiyan is a form and the Kaioken is a technique. The Kaioken can be stacked on other forms, it just might backfire with certain forms that put a strain on your body or consume a ton of Ki, like with Super Saiyan. It's not that Goku can't pull out Super Saiyan Kaioken, it would just burn him out or hurt him if he tried. We also don't have a lot of info on this new form other than some small comments from the spectators, so who knows what it can and can't have stacked on it, besides the writer I mean.
