Back to this... Idk what Salagir expects other than inciting another flame war by referencing how easily forgiven Bra was. It's kinda funny though, I never really considered Multiverse fanfiction until those 8 pages, oh well.

I feel disappointed in the conclusion, so I edited the last 3 pages a little bit to give you an alternative take on it.

And then you would have Bra as a character who has accepted death but would be proven wrong later in the story when she has to protect U16 against Vegetto and XXI.

I have to say this again, but my god this is really good writing. Could you please try your hand at writing a multiverse fanfic? I would love to see how you envision the events of multiverse if it was you under the helm.

I truly believe you have the talent for it.

Okay, time to give a deep dive on why Vegito is wrong here. Specifically the "I was supposed to win this tournament!" part.

Now, what do I mean by Vegito is "wrong"? I mean, by all factors Vegito should not have come to this tournament expecting to win. Look at Vegito's two components, Goku and Vegeta, to see exactly what I mean.

Goku: Goku, since he was first training with Master Roshi in Volume 2, Tale 28: "Let the training begin", showed his interest in stronger opponents. This is the first time he see someone with skills far above his own in action. (Roshi running 100 meters in 5.6 seconds) From this moment onwards, whenever Goku has faced an opponent stronger than him, he never reacts angrily, or frustrated. He accepts the challenge and tries his best to come out on top. In Volume 5, Tale 53: "The final blow", when Goku loses to Jackie Chun, does he through a fit? Does he say, "Those strange techniques he has, they're so dishonest!"? No, he smiles, looks at Jackie, and says, "Hey, when I've trained more and gotten stronger, you wanna fight me again?". He accepts that Jackie is stronger than him, and sees Jackie as a goal of strength to reach towards. There is no point in Goku's life where he would pout and call his opponent dishonest, just because he lost. He didn't against Jackie Chun. He didn't against Tao or Tien. He didn't against Demon King Piccolo or Piccolo. Not against Raditz, Nappa, or Vegeta. Frieza, Cell, and Buu were no different. Any strange or unusual abilities his opponents had only made him strive to improve himself so he could defeat them. Not for any reason than because he finds combatting strong opponents fun.

Vegeta: Vegeta grew up with one lesson being constantly taught to him. You need victory, and you need to achieve it through any means. This lesson can be seen being applied his entire life. When he killed Nappa. When he tried to destroy the Earth so he could kill Goku. When he killed most of Frieza's men on Namek. When he submitted to Babidi's magic, just so he could be stronger than Goku. I feel like a case for dishonesty doesn't even need to be made for Vegeta. Him being upset about that would make him a massive hypocrite. And Vegeta crazes a challenge just as much as Goku does. When he let Cell reach his perfect form, he did so just to see if Cell's Perfect Form could even stand close to his power. And when Cell broke every ounce of pride in his body, did Vegeta roll over and cry, "Cell's perfect power... it's too dishonest!" No. He got up, got in the time chamber, and got stronger. Because that's how Vegeta's character works. He looks for the thrill in a tough battle.

Just to make my point clear, I don't disagree with giving Vegito some flaws. In fact, I think, if handled correctly, that it could lead to some insanely interesting scenarios. I take issue when the flaws inserted into a character directly conflict everything that character should stand for. Saiyans crave powerful opponents. Goku and Vegeta, specifically, crave strong opponents to spar against. If they thought they would've destroyed this tournament, they wouldn't have entered. It would have bored both of them, and been a waste of their time. Vegito also craves challenge. His fight against Broly is proof of this, allowing Broly to power up so that he can face the best challenge he's faced his entire life. I make these points only hoping to demonstrate how this story can improve, and maybe give a few pointers to any writers who may be aspiring authors or writers, trying to get inspirations from fan works they see online.

Whatever the case may be, thank you, for coming to my Ted Talk. I greatly appreciate your time. :)

That was a really nice Ted Talk, and I wholeheartedly agree. Even Vegetto in this fanfic craves a challenge, so I don't see where 'I'm the one supposed to win this tournament' line comes from.

CrystalMV was saying:

I haven't seen anyone among Bra's defenders saying that dragon balls are a reason to allow deaths to occur. And the same Gotenks who sided with Bra, he would have fought against her if he was there, even if he knew everything would be fixed in the end.

When did I say that was their argument? Their argument and I shall repeat myself again, is that death is inconsequential (one that you parrot in this same reply), thus undeserving of punishment. I find such sentiment not only distasteful but unbecoming of supposed heroic role models. Life should always be viewed with respect, even if there is a way of bringing it back from the dead.

CrystalMV was saying:

She isn't innocent overall, but she's more innocent than Nappa.

Ah yes, let's weigh their villainous deeds as if it were an auction to win punishment we shall use their kill count as betting money, Can I get a 2 billion on Planet X?

Though jokes aside, if we were being honest, it's more of a contest of appearances.
CrystalMV was saying:
Her reaction to her accidental killings back then was messed up, but considering it was probably already a common thing for her to see people die and get brought back, it made sense for her to view death as an inconsequential thing. Had she blown the planet up because she was evil, Vegetto would have been right to threaten her (or beat her up for that matter). But she blew it up because she has mental issues and was put into a situation where she lost control, and Vegetto thinks threatening her will fix those issues? That's now how it works. Anyway, the difference between Bra and Nappa is that Bra is good but not good enough to be immune to Babidi's magic. Nappa is evil. Gohan is in the wrong for hitting Nappa, but Bra, who wasn't trying hard enough to be good, is still a better person than Nappa, who wasn't trying to be good at all.

Nice psychological analysis there for 1 party and summarization for the other, I take it Nappa looking the way he does has nothing to do with your brief and skim summarization over his acts of villainy? 5 total justifications for Bra, as opposed to 0 for Nappa. I mean did you even try to understand why Nappa does what he does? Nah you didn't. (Btw I know he is a monster, but hey, I'm not the one trying to justify the mass murder of billions as a mental disorder. Just the one pointing out the blatant hypocrisy) 1 Replie(s)

>Is Bra no longer a veteran warrior? Is Bra no longer a Saiyan?
Was she about to mearly get knocked out with a slap? No? So how is that relevant to what I said?
>It's just a joke. No need to get defensive.
Who gets defensive? I was asking if you guys are seriously equating getting killed to beeing slapped. And alot of people seem to.

Isn't you people's whole argument that death is inconsequential due to dragon balls? She getting killed might as well be a slap on the wrist, everyone else against Vegetto (in universe as well) seems to think so since no one cares that she just killed their friends and family.

Ma Jr was saying:

Vegetto was about to BRUTALLY MURDER Son Bra, who is a teenager with mental issues, Gohan just knocked out Nappa, you know, the genocidal maniac, with a single hit causing no pain.

But Son Bra has a vagina, right?

Don't give me this bs about her being some innocent teenager with mental issues. She is the 2nd most powerful being in their universe, who killed BILLIONS when she was 6 and laughed about it afterward. And yes, her appearance does matter. As you people wouldn't be defending her or her villainess actions if she looked like Nappa.

It's fine if you want to see the character to succeed, hell I do too, but don't be disingenuous. The only reason why she got away with what she did is because of the way she looks, and Nappa on this page made this hypocrisy apparent. 3 Replie(s)

Son Bra was saying:
Salagir, you guys do understand tone, correct? Dragon Ball has always been a gag series, so there is certainly supposed to be humour in it. However, I believe Oak's word's echo here.

There's a time and a place for everything. You all go from more or less finalising your butchering of Vegetto as a character and a concept by having him attempt filicide in front of his family, friend, and an assortment of complete strangers, then completely lambasting him by speaking directly to the audience through your characters about flaws you all created for him that only serve to undermine him as a character. And this is after you just finished, using one Bra to highlight the flaws of the other Bra by, once again, just taking audience critiques about the character and surgically inserting them into your story. And this is from a Bra fan, my username isn't "Son Bra" for no reason (and I find it hilarious that it wasn't taken, it either goes to show the terrible reception of the character or perhaps this website doesn't care who uses what name?). It feels like Salagir would rather this have been a manga central to Bra, and I don't even think that would have been a bad thing, but he knew he needed the Multiverse angle to draw people in before he focused entirely on his pet character. Which, again, not necessarily bad, but upfront honesty would have been nice about, oh...ten years or so ago.

This manga hooked me initially on the idea of a permanent Vegetto. He is my favourite fusion (outside of Kefla, as Salagir continues to refuse to acknowledge DBS, despite clearly taking inspirations from it later) and I was interested to see what they'd do with him. Oh and they gave him a daughter, an older Bra who is amazingly strong and badass, that sounds cool too, how amazing this fan manga is going to be.

I fell in love with this comic so many years ago due to Vegetto, and in extension, his story, which cannot be told without Bra, so with her too. A father trying his best to adjust to a situation birthed out of necessity. Later on, taking the mantle of Universe's Defender. A role of heroism unparalleled in all the universes combined and dealing with the fatherly affections he holds for his daughter and the duty he hails to as the Universe's Defender. Bra, a girl trying her best to control herself in a universe so fragile that it can crumble under her hands if she squishes hard enough, and not only that, her father is the strongest in the universe, with the heaviest burden too, which in time, she must uphold as well. Her struggles make her flawed (in my mind, the perfect type of setup for an overpowered character, to grow and overcome.). So my expectations were always how this duo would ultimately overcome their struggles and grow as characters.

Now in the present, I just look at all the butchered fan-favorite series as of late, and cannot fathom how there are still people who take up after them. for example, I don't understand the deal with authors and their need to shoot down fan-favorite characters to shoe in others. You didn't need to butcher Vegetto's character (a character of whom you rode on the back of to promote your comic). Unlike most trash from Hollywood, Bra was finely written with issues that could be rectified through character growth... but instead of that, instead of respecting Vegetto as both a character and a father... we get this.

This for me has been quite the wild ride, my biggest expectation from the beginning of the Majin Bra arc was how she would break the mind control, to my let down, it was by being called weak/passive. Instead of the realization of what she has done. "Fine", I thought, "At the very least she could regret things later on" but to my surprise, I was mind blown by the amounts of overprotectiveness the author felt for Bra to the point that she cant even be chastised. I literally couldn't believe what I was reading. It took me several days to progress what I just read, and in the end, I saw it. It was the author butchering Vegetto's character to have him forcefully replaced by Bra. How many years of this father and daughter dynamic flushed down the toilet to shoehorn this nonsense? Sigh

Thank kami however for @Argelios edit. I don't think I could've continued past page 1830 without it, and ironically, it had everything I ever wanted for both Vegetto and Bra all illustrated within 3 pages, a functional father and daughter relationship, and the setup to pass the reins of responsibility to Bra after she proves herself to Universe 19. This is the difference that makes a world of difference, instead of shoehorning Bra to replace Vegetto, you give her the opportunity to earn that spot herself, and in turn, the respect of the viewers. Not through pity but through heroism. 2 Replie(s)

So, a group of people who come from a universe without resurrections, and treat death seriously, now suddenly not treating it seriously anymore - something which is a COMPLETE CHARACTER CHANGE - is somehow not a recton?

You have no right to talk about proper literary analysis if you think characters' world views doing sudden complete 180s without any explanation is not a recton.

Well said, just look at how long it took for the main cast to adapt to resurrection, and even then, they still treat life with a modicum of respect, they don't see the deaths of their friends and go "Ah shucks. Why did you have to go and do that? Do you know how annoying it'll be to go fetch the dragon balls?" But oh well, their friends' killer is the author's waifu so there is nothing they can do except accept it and move on.

I don't understand how you can look at @Argelios edit, and still claim that we're bra haters. Tell me honestly, what would be better for Bra as a character? Being pat on the back because she, the one who just murdered her family, is incapable of wrongdoing? Or her realizing her mistakes, acknowledging them, and repenting, with the possibility of redemption?

If we truly were bra haters, we wouldn't want for her character to be better off, we ironically, do what you're doing by defending her actions so Vegito snaps and ends her regardless of who gets in his way. 1 Replie(s)
