I wonder if they are going the psychological route here - Gohan. has a mental block because he couldn't see Goku or anyone else defeat the androids, it's hard for him to imagine that he could get that strong. It would be an awesome and deep explanation for why he doesn't get stronger in this timeline.

In the last few pages, I started to think this fight dragging out too long - then I decided to re-read it from the beginning, and I can say that it's by far the best fight in the whole comic - well done DBM team.

I read about metal gear solid 4 (never played or know a slightest clue about it), and I find there is small but vocal criticism of it having very long cutscenes. Now its funny that most of the criticism of this goku vs vegeta fight is also about it being too long; this fight carries MGS4 not only in choreography but in how it impresses the reader! lol.

I loved this game for the long cut scenes! Hideo Kojima was interested in exploring interactive movies, which is essentially what MGS4 was like - a very long movie that requires a lot of player input throughout the story!

Not gonna lie, as much as that was a great character moment for Vegeta, I never thought that his admission to Goku being better than him made much sense.
Goku has always been a great rival, but his advantage over Vegeta more times than not, was due to some sort of external help.
When they first met Vegeta was stronger and Goku had to resort to the Kaioken, a technique taught to him by King Kai, in order to match and eventually overpower him in one or two instances of the fight.
When they got to Namek, Goku was stronger simply because he got to train during his trip while Vegeta didn't.
After the Cell Saga, Goku was dead for 7 years and was allowed to train in the afterlife while Vegeta stayed among the living on earth (Training in the afterlife is confirmed to yield crazy advantages over training in the living world).
The only time Goku legitimately surpassed Vegeta was during the Cell Saga when Goku discovered the the FPSSJ transformation. Other than that, Goku has always had some sort of unfair advantage, so Vegeta insinuating that Goku has always been naturally better than him was always absurd to me.

Don't forget Goku using the Senzu beans on the way to Namek, and getting a single zenki from 90k to a good deal above Vegeta's last zenki he obtained when >/= to Frieza's first form... cause reasons... (MC plot) haha. But yeah I have to agree to an extent. I kind of took it as Vegeta only admitting Goku was the best in that moment, which is still huge for his character and pride. And/or saying Goku is the best pure combatant. Not that Vegeta couldn't ever surpass him.
One could also argue that even against Cell, Goku only knew to do that because of external help (all of his training from masters). Who did Vegeta have to teach him once daddy died? The dumb brute Nappa, and Frieza? - Mr. "never been hurt besides my father" so never had to learn much true fighting skill and strategy. Now to be fair, in the manga Vegeta goes to the "cell games" and uses normal SSJ, so it's implied he tried taking Goku's route, yet was only able to surpass 50% of Goku's power. However, that's also arguably the same reasoning, Vegeta never had anyone to teach him to rest properly, or to reduce his pride a bit showing him how beneficial a training partner can be

I see where you're both coming from, but I have a different perspective. For me, narrative should always be the driving force of a story. Those "unfair advantages" you guys talk about aren't unfair at all - they are the consequences of Goku being a good person and nurturing his relationships with people. throughout the story of DB. Vegeta, by contrast, has largely lived a selfish and isolated life - and the consequences of that are that he is largely alone in his development. What you guys are saying is "if Vegeta was given the same opportunities, he would..." whereas in my view, it's a moot point - Vegeta would never have the opportunities Goku did because he didn't earn them and doesn't deserve them. 2 Replie(s)

You couldn't be more wrong. Think of two equal buckets of water. One bucket has a tap with heavy flow, the other has a tap with low flow. Obviously, low flow will last the longest. This form is low flow - they maximize use of ki. But at the end of the day, when you run out of ki, you run out of ki. If one of them were SSJ3, they would have run out of ki long ago. 2 Replie(s)

I'm always under the impression that while Buu is strong powerwise, his body is made of something weaker. Which is why it gets vaporized more easily than other characters, but he has regeneration so it doesn't matter for him.
Same goes for Namekians. See how Namekians always gets their arms or other body parts cut off and have to regenerate? That doesn't happen to other characters, at least not that often. Except Uub.

I think because these characters can regenerate, they are the ones who are always chosen to show how "real" the stakes are in the story without any real consequence (imagine Goku losing an arm)... But unfortunately, when you know someone can just regenerate with little consequence, it doesn't do the job well. But anyways, that's a nice in-universe explanation for it.

If I could insert my own assumption as to why that was allowed once and never again, its possible they never had that kind of situation come up. no one pure of heart ever had a kinto-un or something like it intervene. so they made a decision on the spot and decided that it was ok under the air bud clause. there was no rule against it, so its allowed.
so then at that point it was declared an invalid form of protection from out of bounds.

Yes, but I'm saying that's BS, and in my opinion a plot hole. I understand from the perspective of the organizers that they might let it go once since they don't know what kinto-un is.. But from Goku's perspective... Goku should have known it's dishonest to get outside help - I mean, kinto-un has to be called by name to come, so it obviously counts as outside help!! And if it's dishonest, he probably shouldn't have been allowed to ride it - can you be pure of heart if you try to win by cheating?
I get that they tried to show that Goku thought it was ok for him to cheat as well since he thought Giran was cheating by using his spit or whatever, but even in the best case scenario, Goku would have thought he was also cheating...
But then again, I'm probably taking too seriously what was then still in large part a gag manga.... 1 Replie(s)
No offense to the writers, but I'm not convinced this is in character for Giran! I also think it would have been nice to see Krillin actually land some attacks since I think he was more than capable at this point in the story - even if they may be trying to portray him as being smart and resourceful.

That's exactly how I'd interpret that as well. Besides - it would take years to bring everyone back since Porunga could only bring back 1 person at a time.

However, even if we take the guidebook page to be true, it could be explained by all thee training with the earthlings in anticipation for Nappa and Vegeeta's arrival since that's the moment in time Popo would have been 1000. The story suggests Popo was weaker than Kami during the earlier arcs. Also, in that guidebook page it also says King Piccolo was stronger than Kami, which to me shows the whole page is horse shit.

I'm kind of surprised to see so many people think that Raditz is as strong now as he was during the Saiyan saga, and even more shocked to see that people think he's STRONGER - I'll be pretty shocked if he's not significantly weaker now than in the Saiyan saga. I know we shouldn't rely on power levels, but I would think that it would make sense if Kami was around 200ish, that Raditz could be around 500ish at this point (if Kami is to survive this blast, which I'm assuming he will).
This is a tricky one to dissect - this was before it was established that the afterlife was accessible to living mortals through something like shunkanido. At the time in the story when Kami went to fetch Goku, it definitely seemed to me like Kami's technique was just a "spiritual" technique that god has to move between the worlds of the living and dead. But once they introduced shunkanido and Goku was even able to travel "physically"(instead of the "spiritual" assumption from earlier) to the world of the dead, it makes it less clear what Kami's technique actually is. (Especially considering that Kibito had a godly OP version of shunkanido too). I still think it would make sense that Kami can't teleport anywhere, but just to the afterlife because he's a god - we've never seen him do that, neither as Kami nor as Kamiccolo. Kami can Teleport, I think he did it in Dragonball once, he can possess people like in the tourny and then when he grabs Goku's hand to teleport him to Earth before Piccolo died and I don't think he needs to be on the lookout to teleport there, He and Baba can do weird things that Vegeta and other hand to hand warriors hate

Can't get enough of Kami's battle outfit - looks so awesome.
Also love the scale at which he was drawn - it reminds me so much of when Piccolo first appeared, he was gargantuan and intimidating.
Amazing artwork.

So is he getting his ass kicked in the first round and then he searches for Piccolo or does he directly go for the rice cooker. Would be the first time we see Kami actually fight for real. He/Piccolo should wish for youth in any case.
Based on the preview pic with Raditz and Piccolo/Kamiccolo, I think he will.
This series is masterfully created from a deep knowledge of memes

It's the arm SOn Bra lost against Cell.
And look for "Yaranaika" on google, to understand the reference ;)

I think I was given one or two via google docs what was used for the script) rest I searched for images online to get an idea what to to be used as refrence etc or find a consistent design on Pilaf's gang.) Overall I gathered together about 22 images prior to working on sketches etc.

Hello everyone, so the day everyone finally feared has arrived.
I get air time at last!
This was an interesting project, the concept is entirely from salagir, and was proposed in late December 2020, this wasn't the first page, the first one I did (which will turn up) was part of a trial to see how I fare in followig instructions given etc.
I did offer to work as my way of saying thanks for giving input to regards to another project.
The project was underway from late March and completed by Novemember, totalling 11 pages (and could had been more, 18 pages in all honesty, but some ideas were rejected as they couldn't work with the concept here)
This though was (after the trial) the first collab on a mini-story. I say mini story as this was orignally just two pages but I got it extended to 4, as an example Raditz punching Rhoshi was to be on page 1 in according to early notes but asked if it can be given more space, therefore a new page was made.
You can see the process of the first page as it evolved:

The 'not compatible' part was due to me using a wrong reference in relation to the building and goku & krillin's clothing so was amended in version 2.
Version 2 was asking if Raditz's disappointment could be it's own panel due to the shift in mood, the sketch is of salagir seeing there's space for it.
Overall this was a nice opportunity to try something new.
On another note, making Raditz 'younger' was tricky, as he was 17 in this era so wouldn't look as he would in the saiyan saga.
